Eating out and Takeaways
It is probably best to avoid takeaways and eating out to start with. Later, the following advice should help you to eat out more safely. Always choose restaurants that look clean.
Takeaways
- Avoid any foods from takeaway vans.
- Avoid Chinese and Indian takeaways.
- Fish and chips are acceptable if freshly cooked. Do not have foods that have been kept in the warm cabinet.
- Burgers. Only buy from takeaways that guarantee that the food is very recently cooked. Ask for the burger to be well cooked, and ask for no salad or garnish.
- Pizzas should be well cooked and eaten immediately.
Restaurants
- Choose hot dishes. Check that the restaurant doesn't keep the food warm and reheat it.
- Avoid cold starters, salads and cold desserts.
- Ask for meat, poultry and seafood to be well cooked.
- Check that sauces do not contain raw or undercooked egg.
Keeping Clean in the Environment
- Avoid Exposure to crowds or to people with colds or contagious diseases.
- Practice good hygiene, including frequent hand washing.
- Brush teeth regularly, bathe or shower daily; and pay special attention to hard-to-clean areas such as skin folds and the rectal area.
- Avoid cuts and scrapes. Patients with Aplastic Anaemia or Myelodysplasia who think they might get injured while at work or engaging in hobbies or sports activities, should ask their health care provider about ways to protect themselves.
People who need to be on the Clean Diet due to immune system deficiencies should be a full partner with the health care team by taking care of themselves and reporting any problems they may have.
