Water Tap water. Bottled fizzy water.Ice cubes.
Use clean trays Filtered water.Still bottled water. Water
from well, unless boiled Drinks Tea, coffee, Ovaltine, Horlicks, Bovril,
Oxo, Marmite, etc., Canned and bottled fizzy drinks, Fruit squash. Use within 3 days of opening,
or 5 days if kept in a fridge. U Fruit juices other than
UHT Milk Fresh pasteurised, UHT or tinned milk. Use
within 1-2 days of opening if it smells fresh. Unpasteurised milk (green
top) Cream Pasteurised, UHT or tinned milk. Use within
1 - 2 days of opening if smells fresh. Unpasteurised milk (Green
top). Cheese Vacuum-wrapped hard cheese. May be eaten
raw for up to 5 days after opening, or cooked for up to 7 - 10 days after
opening. Processed cheese triangles. Unwrapped cheese. Brie, Camembert,
Cambozola, Blue cheese, Cream cheese, Cottage cheese. Any cheese with
visible mould on it. Yoghurt Pasteurised or UHT yoghurt, including live
yoghurt. Unpasteurised yoghurt. Framoage
Frais. Eggs Eggs cooked till yolk and white set, e.g.
hard boiled, or cooked well in a food such as in a cake. Pasteurised egg.
Eggs should be stored in a fridge once purchased. Raw or partially cooked egg, or foods
containing them, i.e.. home-made mayonnaise, mousses, ice cream, soufflé,
royal icing, soft meringue, egg custard, egg flip. Fats and Oils Store in a fridge and keep clean. Use a
clean knife. Butter or margarine with crumbs, jam, etc.
in it. Meat, Fish Raw, rare or partially cooked meat or fish,
including smoked fish. Ready to eat poultry. Unwrapped meat or fish from
delicatessen. Paté bought loose. Vacuum packed patés. Unwrapped pies etc. from
delicatessen. Vegetables All other salad. Fruit Bread Fresh bread. Use within 2 days of either
purchase or defrosting Stale bread Biscuits Keep fresh in airtight container and use
within 5 days of opening Cake Bought or home-made cake, within 2 days of
baking. Store in air tight container. Wrapped bought cakes should be eaten
well within useby date. Cake decorated with raw nuts. Stale cake. Breakfast Cereals Use within 2 weeks of opening Cereals containing raw nuts or raw dried
fruit. Dry Goods Crisps and Nuts Crisps. Salted nuts. Roasted or cooked
nuts. Raw, unsalted nuts. Wrapped sweets and chocolate. Ice-Cream Individually wrapped ice-creams, ice
lollies and ice pops. Sauces, Pickles, Jams Buy small jars and store in a fridge once
opened. Keep tops clean and use clean cutlery. Any with mould growing on
it Salt, Spices Salt. Cooked pepper and
spices. Uncooked pepper and
Spices. Alcohol* Wines, spirits, sherry, beer,
cider. Fruit in drinks, e.g. slice of
lemon.
